Abstract

In 2018, the Council of Europe published the Companion Volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This update included mediation as a linguistic activity and strategy required to achieve language profciency. Although the original framework published in 2001 already defned the concept of mediation, this new volume broadens its defnition and includes descriptors for each level of language profciency. This modifcation originated the update of the ofcial language schools’ curricula in Spain as well as the requirements for obtaining the oficial certifcation. The new Spanish Organic Law Amending the Organic Law of Education (LOMLOE) extends this update to the new ofcial curricula of foreign language subjects at primary, secondary and postsecondary education, which have just been published by the Ministry of Education and will come into force the following school year 2022-2023.
