Abstract
In the late 1970s, the Extremaduran education inspector Adolfo Maíllo noted that the invaluable contributions of the many distinguished inspectors of the 20th century, whom he regarded as part of “the silver age” of Educational Inspection, would one day be properly acknowledget in the history of Spanish education.
Among them was Juvenal de Vega y Relea, a figure about whom little has been written, with few studies exploring his impact in Spanish education. It is time his obscured legacy is brought to light.
Juvenal, a versatile inspector, was also a prolific writer, an eloquent speaker, and deeply committed to social causes, all While fulfilling his primary duties as an educator and inspector. He spent nearly two decades of his life in Cáceres, where he served as Head of the Service during the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera and the Second Republic. However, his career was tragically cut short with the onset of Franco’s regime in 1936, which plunged his life, and that of his family, into turmoil.
