Abstract

if generative artificial intelligence can write for us, why is it more important than ever to teach writing in school? Writing is not a mechanical act, but a powerful tool for structuring thought, clarifying ideas and, ultimately, learning. This article aims to select and summarise the main contributions of research on how to teach writing. It focuses on how to use writing to acquire knowledge in all areas of the curriculum and, based on this, develop critical thinking. To this end, it addresses its key components—from transcription skills to composition strategies—organised using a visual analogy: the Writing Bicycle, which facilitates understanding and teaching planning. Likewise, the rationale presented can serve the advisory function that educational inspection exercises in schools.
