CORRELATION BETWEEN SCHOOL AUTONOMY AND EDUCATIONAL INSPECTION (Part 1)

Abstract

In most OECD countries since the end of the 20th century, school autonomy has become a topic of discussion for educational centres, administrations and management teams; a new wave of modernisation and reform that has raised well-founded hopes for reshaping education systems. In the implementation process, the intervention of the Education Inspectorate (EI) stands out as an essential factor. Its systemic vision will be seen considered necessary to adapt it to the context, and policies relating to leadership development, evaluation, accountability or institutional support will give way to the exploration of new opportunities for improvement. Given the scope of the study, it has been considered necessary to divide it into two parts. The first part of the article dealt with the concepts considered necessary for the study of autonomy, together with the historical and regulatory evolution of its implementation in Spain and, finally, the variables and foundations that define the autonomy of an educational institution. The second part finished with the study of the central core, in which the implications and changes in roles that the process of autonomy has for the Education Inspectorate are investigated.
